About Us

John (Jack) Schwietert, Principle, literally grew up in the precision machining industry. In 1951, at the age of 9, he had his first summer job in the assembly department of V-S Grinding Co. in Chicago. His father, Carl founded the company near the end of WWII.

After earning a MSME degree at Valparaiso University and a MBA at Washington University in St. Louis, Jack worked for 3M Co. in St. Paul, MN. In 1970, he returned to V-S Grinding and over the next four decades successfully grew the company of $46 million in sales before selling in 2014. Jack's over 40 years of experience in the precision machining industry makes Carlyle Partners the ideal organization to match customer needs with the right supplier.

Why we do what we do

Of all of the manufacturing processes, metal turning is certainly the most complex. Raw materials range from free cutting brass to tool steels and from cold drawn bars to forging. Cutting tools consist of high-speed steel form tools to carbide or ceramic inserts as well as grinding wheels. Metal cutting machinery range from CNC lathes to transfer machines or screw machines.

Complexity brings about specialization. The complexity of the human body has forced those in the medical field to become specialists in only one or several aspects of the human body. Likewise, the metal cutting industry has spawned a wide array of companies that specialize in just one or two processes. The result is they enjoy a competitive advantage over others and quote work that best fits their niche or speciality.

The best quality and pricing is achieved when work is accomplished through professionals who specialize in the ideal process to produce the part. It is never wise to force work on a supplier who is not equipped to manufacture the part.

The challenge for the buyer is to:

- Identify the best process to produce the part

- Locate a specialist in that process among the population of turned parts suppliers
